Storytelling Through Camerawork
In this clip the director uses clips going back and forth to show the facial expressions of Gabriella and her mom to show Gabriella's anxiety and nervousness before entering a new high school and her mom's excitement for her. He also includes and over the shoulder shot of the kid twirling the basketball on his finger to show the other classmates. It also shows a close up shot of Troy's facial expressions to show to the audience that Troy is showing interest in Gabriella to further the story. The camera then continues to go from wide shot of the classroom to close up shots of Troy's face to show his disorientation and confusion. They then go back and forth with close up shots to show Troy and Gabriella's excitement to see each other. The camera then goes to a wide shot to show how the two interact with each other.
